At first I have to admit I was a little overwhelmed by the wiki assignment. It didn’t help that my Learning team and I were a little confused about the whole process for the week. However after a few questions we got everything worked out. It was the same for my own experience with Wiki. I was confused at first but after I spent some time playing around I felt quite comfortable with the whole process. I found that the tutorial videos were helpful. Once a teacher feels confident enough to implement a wiki into their classroom I can defiantly see how the students would be engaged. It is a fun and innovative way for teachers to incorporate technology into their lesson. I feel wiki’s would be a great place to start for teachers that are not that experienced with technology. After they spent some time with another teacher or a tech lead they should be fairly confident with the program. For me personally I think wiki’s have more of an appeal for elementary students. I think they would love all the interactive features that you can add such as a voki. As a high school teacher I’m not sure how the students would react. I believe that a virtual class room would be more appropriate for high school. The downfall of the virtual classroom is that it is not as user friendly as the wiki. A few years ago the virtual classroom was big in our district. I tried to create my own but got very frustrated with the process, as it was very time consuming. If I had the choice I would defiantly choose to go with the Wiki over the virtual classroom. If I was an elementary teacher I would integrate wiki’s into my daily lesson.
